Rubbish! Absolute rubbish!
I know you are going to find this shocking but I love cats. No…no wait. That isn’t right. I don’t just love cats… I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE cats. Like I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really love cats. They bring me such joy and happiness. As a matter of fact, my cat Harold is no doubt my soulmate. There isn’t a person on earth that gets me like that cat does. Does that make me weird? I don’t know and you know what else? I don’t care if it does.
Now let’s get to the purpose of this entry. I read something this morning that I really don’t agree with and if there’s anything that the internet is good for, it’s disagreeing.
The story came from the Daily Mail. And the story was about dating profiles and how men that pose with cats are considered “less masculine” and ultimately “less datable” in both the long term and short term. This makes no sense to me.
Who carried out this study? I will tell you…scientists at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado U.
Here’s how the study was conducted: Men who held a confident pose and were alone in their profile picture were more likely to attract women. How did they come to this conclusion? Women were asked to rate the same man posing with and without a cat. Photos of two men were shown to the group. Both men had dark hair, wore a blue buttoned down shirt and were photographed against a white background. They posed both with and without the cat.
The pictures were then displayed and were rated. They were rated on personality, masculinity, date-ability and whether they would consider going out with that person for a long term or short term relationship.
(Now we get to the RUBBBBISHHHHHHH portion of this entry…)
The study found that women perceived the man holding the cat as “less masculine” and “less datable” in both long term and short term dating.
I disagree with all of this. How does loving a sweet and furry creature make a man less masculine and less datable? I don’t get it. I think it adds to their personality. It shows compassion and kindness. I don’t see how that can be considered anything but great.
Cat men rock.
