  1. Though most people will gain between one and two pounds this holiday season, it is possible to lose weight. What you need is a strategy and here it is: your holiday weight loss hacking guide.

Here are things you can do to not only stay at the same level, but lose pounds too.

    • Plan ahead. Success in anything starts with mapping everything out. Put all your possible holiday pitfalls, like cocktail parties or get-togethers on a calendar then add what you will do to counteract the effects. You can choose the exercise method of your choice. Whatever you do, get those workouts in.
    • Make money a motivation. Pay for a non-refundable spin class, personal trainer, or something similar.
    • Drink selectively. Holiday punches and sugary cocktails come in around 300 calories. Opt for wines or vodka, which pack only 100. Learning the fine art of sipping wouldn’t hurt either.
    • Curb the carbs. Holiday or not, this is great advice. Carbs are a diet killer.
    • Bet on your success. Make a friendly wager with someone who is supporting your efforts. Take it a step further and make it a friendly competition between your group of friends. Bet on not gaining or on losing weight.

  3. Funniest Calls To The Butterball Hotline

Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away, and there will be lot of people attempting to make a turkey for their very first time. For this reason alone, Butterball employs an annual turkey Talk Line, which fields more than 10,000 calls on the holiday, with more than 50 experts answering questions to help the day run smoothly. Many of the experts have worked the line for over 16 years, so you can imagine they’ve heard some pretty crazy questions over the years.

Some of the more outrageous inquiries include:

    • “So I’m looking at a turkey from 1969 sitting here in my father’s freezer… any tips on the best way to cook a 30-year-old bird?” – the answer was to throw it out, since they’re no saving old meat
    • “How do I roast my turkey so it gets golden brown tan lines — in the shape of a turkey bikini?” – believe it or not, the answer is to outline your turkey with aluminum foil in the shape of a bikini
    • “How do you carve a turkey when all of its bones have been broken?” – Seems one cook decided to stomp on his turkey in order to get the big bird into a small pan. The answer  – next time buy two smaller turkeys or try a different method of cooking.
    • “I carved my turkey with a chainsaw… is the chain grease going to adversely affect my turkey?” – Um, yes, Next time use a carving knife.
    • “Why does my turkey have no breast meat?” – Turns out the woman’s turkey was upside down.
    • “It’s my first Thanksgiving and I have a tiny apartment-sized oven… how much will my turkey expand when cooking?” – Answer –  it doesn’t.
    • “How do I get my turkey to stop sudsing? Is a soapy turkey recoverable?” – Turkeys shouldn’t be sudsy, there’s no need to use soap to clean a turkey.
    • “For the sake of delicious smells, can I cook for turkey over the course of four days? – No you can’t. unless you want to eat shoe leather, or risk salmonella poisoning.
